02/04/2010 10:46Hey City Nights it's the Sun that Shines with another fabulous interview for you. I'm here with one of South Florida's up coming singers, who I have been trying to get an interview with for the longest, but our schedules kept crossing. But he's here and I'm excited about this interview.
Sunnie: What's up, It's finally great to meet you. introduce yourself
Singer: Heeey! Thankyou. The pleasure is definitely all mine! Wuz goin on world! My name is George Tandy Jr..please say the Jr. I am a singer/songwriter/entertainer here living the "artist's life" in beautiful South Florida!!!
Sunnie: Ok, Mr. George Tandy, Jr., see I said Jr.lol! I wanna jump right into this interview by asking you how long have you been singing
George: .. "Shower singing only" most of my life... I had a terrible fear of singing out in front of people...nobody believes it but its true. Sooo, i've actually only been singing for people about 3 or 4 years. Lovin it!
Sunnie: Really? only 3 or 4 years. Wow! I'm impressed. So, tell me who are some of your influences in the music industry
George: First and foremost my dad George Tandy (minus the Jr) He is an incredible pianist and just overall artistic mind ..not just for what he creates but how it connects with people! Other than that..MJ, Maxwell, Donnel Jones, The Roots, Musiq Soulchild, Jill Scott,Jamie Foxx,Robin Thicke, Jay Z, Timbaland, Pharrel. Soo many more .. too many to name!
Sunnie: So the talent runs in the family.
Sunnie: Do you write your own music
George: Ofcourse, Doesn't everybody?
Sunnie: Ok George, now you know not everybody writes their own music, so I gotta ask.
Sunnie: Speaking of writing your own music I hear you also play instruments. What do you play
George: Currently I play the Piano, Keyboard- when i was younger I played Clarinet, French Horn, Bass Clarinet, Snare Drum.
Sunnie:Wow, you're just a one man band. I love it.
Sunnie: So what genre of music are you categorized and what other styles are you associated with
George: It's def. RnB but with so many influences. Jazz, Hip Hop, Classical, Alternative, 80's Rock type stuff.... and you can hear it all blended together. Its Delicious! Sunnie: It sounds like you have a musical receipe of your own.
Sunnie: If you could work with one artist who would it be and why
George: My Dad,
Sunnie: Really? that's special
George: Its just been my dream to do a song with him. It'll happen at the right time and that too will be deeelicious! ... if I could get a 2nd artist ..it would be Timbaland. 3rd Jay Z .. just in case you were wondering!
Sunnie: Any shows or tour dates coming up
George: Yes, on Jan. 28th at MVp Restaraunt with a band called Deep Groove and Feb. 5-7th opening for Frankie Beverly , and Musiq Soulchild at Miami Big Game Extravaganza in Miami. Im Madd Excited!
Sunnie: Wow! I'm mad excited too as if I was in the front row seat.lol!
Sunnie: For those that are interested in hearing your music where can they go to have a private listening party or to see footage from your performances
George: They can go to www.georgetandyjr.com or see video clip below
Sunnie: Do you notice how people always ask in an interview, where do you see yourself in five years. I'm different cause five years are way too long. I wanna know where do you see yourself in a year.
George: definitely recording great music and doing amazing shows! I try not to predict the future..that is a mistake i've made in the past. Its good to have goals.. however its also easy to get hypnotized by our own fantasy of success so.. for now..i'll just work hard and appreciate each day and we'll just do another interview a year from now and catch up on things! Sunnie: O.k. we can do that
Sunnie: By any chance do you have any siblings that are musicians
George: My dad- George Tandy (keyboardist), Mom- Candi Tandy (vocalist, vocal coach), Sunnie: Wait!, Your mom's name is Candi Tandy? How cute is that. I'm sorry, continue Geoge: Sister Katrina "K.Rose" Tandy (singer, songwriter), Brother- Richard "Caveman" Tandy ( Pianist, Producer), Brother- Nick Tandy (played Sax back in the day) Sunnie: So, everybody in the family has a talent, that is so hott.
Sunnie: I'm sure we have many viewers that's trying hard to get in the industry. Any advice
George: Be Original! Be Humble! Be Aggressive and Patient at the same time!! Be Reliable!! Be Informed!! Be Happy!! Sunnie: You hear that CNTV viewers be RELIABLE.
Sunnie: Wow! time has flown by so fast. But before we end this interview, I'm going to allow you to make your shout outs, thank yous and where your fans and new fans can find you
George: I'd like to big up the whole Spoken Word and Open Mic Scene in South Florida. Promoters, Poets, Family, Friends and Supporters! You are my foundation and I will never forget that! Sunnie: Nice.
Sunnie: Well, George it was a pleasure to finally interview you after hearing so much about your talents. Continue to keep City Nights in the loop as we will do the same
